Bio of the therapist

A licensed Clinical Psychologist accredited by the Algerian Ministry of Health, with more than 10 years of experience in psychotherapy and psychological counseling. She provides mental health services to adolescents and adults from diverse cultural and national backgrounds, offering therapy in Arabic, English, and French. Her clinical approach is evidence-based, integrative, and tailored to each client's individual needs and goals.

She specializes in treating a broad range of mental health conditions, including anxiety disorders, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and trauma-related difficulties. She also supports individuals coping with psychological stress, humanitarian crises, war-related trauma, violence and abuse, chronic medical conditions, emotional regulation difficulties, anger management, low self-esteem, relationship and marital issues, life transitions, burnout, workplace stress, grief, and loss.

Zakia holds a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology and Mental Health and a Bachelor's degree in Clinical Psychology. She is also a certified trainer in the World Health Organization's Mental Health Gap Action Programme (mhGAP) and holds certification in Psychological First Aid (PFA).

Throughout her career, she has worked for more than two years with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF Spain) and more than two years with Médecins du Monde (France), providing psychological care within humanitarian settings and supporting individuals affected by conflict and crises. She has extensive experience conducting psychological assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, and monitoring therapeutic progress in both in-person and online settings.

Her therapeutic practice integrates multiple evidence-based approaches, including Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (Freudian and Lacanian schools), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Person-Centered Therapy, allowing her to tailor treatment to each client's unique presentation.

In addition to her clinical work, Zakia has trained and supervised early-career psychologists in Algeria and Palestine, delivered specialized training on psychological care for survivors of sexual violence, Psychological First Aid (PFA) for professionals working in conflict settings, psychosocial support for patients with chronic illnesses, and mental health interventions during the COVID-19 pandemic. She has also contributed to public mental health awareness through television programs, media interviews, webinars, and professional conferences, including participation in activities organized by the Lacanian School in France.
